Iberism and plasticity: an adventure disciplinary with adaptative rationalization at the world

Abstract

In the book “Raízes do Brasil”, Holanda associates the Iberism and the personalism to the plastic adaptation for the local conditions. As a mark of the traditionalism, it represents an obstacle to the Brazilian modernization, and the personal relations represent an obstacle for the rationalization and the impersonality of the institutions. However, mentioning Max Weber, the question of the personalism and the plastic adaptation at the local circumstances is possible to be understood like a factor of the modernization which is inherent to the colonization process and the expansion to the west. Holanda’s other book, “Caminhos e fronteiras”, shows the countless examples about adaptation, types of specific rationalization applied to the local case. Here, the adaptation meant the rational control of the techniques, a way of world’s rational dominationinspired not by a religious creed, but by the incorporation and adaptation of the indigenous knowledge, wisdom and techniques, in São Paulo colonization process, with the exploration of theso called “bandeiras”.
