Modernism and nationalism: the nationals game during the cultural exchange between Brazil and German at the thirds

Abstract

This article intends to analyses the trajectory of the Society Pro Art, established in Rio de Janeiro in 1931, and it’s leader, the german marchand settled in Brazil, Theodor Heuberger. As it’s is recognized by the specialized literature, the cultural Brazilian camp at the thirds is strongly labeled by the themes of nationalism and modernism. In this purpose, the text aims to test the conditions for the autonomous exercise of the art and intellectual as cultural expressions.
