Abstract

This article analyzes texts of the Roman historian Valerius Maximus (Val. Max. 8.3.1- 3) with respect to women who, in the Roman Republic, acted in the forum or in the courts, as well as the motivation of praetorian edict (D.3.1 .1.5) which prohibited women lawyers in favor of others. The article tries to see how the application of the concepts of "humanitarian" and "dignitas" is related to such episodes.
