Profile of the elected representatives to the brazilian legislative assemblies

This article aims to characterize and compare the evolutionary profile of the elected representatives of the state legislature during the period between 1998 and 2010, analyzing the profile of the state and district representatives elected to the Legislative Assemblies considering demographic information on gender and age; and social information about education level and occupation using the documental database from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE). The analysis of the elected profile reveals relevance peculiarities to the debate on the extension of representative democracy in Brazil. Analyzing the results of the elections held in 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010, the research shows the predominance of the following profile of the representatives of chosen candidates by the Brazilian voters: male, aged around 50 years, with college education and occupation declared in category "top members and leaders of the Power Executive and Legislative ", i.e. reelected.Downloads
