This article is based on a field research conducted in a neighborhood in the periphery of Santo André, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil and discusses the sense of belonging to the middle class by its residents, in the face of social inclusion policies implemented in the first decade of the twenty-first century by the state and federal governments. This work also emphasizes the symbolic boundaries established by a group of recently transferred households from a slum area to a condominium of buildings, delivered as part of the housing policy of the State of São Paulo, problematizing the predominance of singularities of the individual trajectories, which pass through multiple social spaces in the contemporaneity, when operating with the concept of habitus.
