Abstract

By considering the problem of paralysis of the processes of recognition and titration of remaining areas of maroon communities, the article aims to approach the different responses of the beneficiaries to this situation as a result of overlapping and hitherto shared intercultural mediations between them and the various acting agents in the context of recognition, and which express practical-symbolic changes related to subjective elaborations of political experience. These responses, in their diversity, both address adherence to common demands around the maroon communities condition, as well as the dissent which confronts collective action, in both cases related to contextual and distinct incorporations of opposing developmental discourses. The reflection develops from ethnographic observation and from an analysis of some texts produced by different agencies involved in ongoing processes in maroon communities territories, more directly in the Upper Ribeira region, southwest of São Paulo.
