Abstract

The present article discusses part of the results of our research on Ulrich Beck’s work, mainly focused on the Risk Society theory. Our essay discusses the relevance of the author’s theoretical propositions and their applicability to Brazilian studies. Based on the Brazilian Public Health fi eld, it indicates the health situation and the health system in the country as constitutive of social processes that reflect the theoretical questions posed by Beck. We discuss a new social inequality, the invisibility and imperceptibility of processes, the causal complexity of phenomena, the latent side effects and the (sub)political issue.
