Abstract

In sugar and alcohol in the region of Ribeirao Preto, São Paulo state, the last two decades have been deeply marked by an intense restructuring process. The huge numbers of workers at the field, whether on the factory floor, have been gradually reduced, with the inclusion of new technologies, industrial automation and mechanization of cutting sugar cane. If the modernization of the production spectrum has harmful consequences of course, it happens differently when analyzing the different types of activities, jobs and workers in the industry.
