Gender and work in contexts of recession and economic growth: a study of trends in greater La Plata (Argentina)

Abstract

This article is based on statistical information we have gathered about the changes that occurred in economic participation and occupational integration of men and women in the labor market of Grater La Plata since 1992. Moreover, having found that the employment situation has not followed the same patterns in all subgroups of men and women, we have also considered inter and intra-gender differences. In this sense, using the database of the Permanent Household Survey (EPH), we have applied logistic regression models to assess the weight and meaning of gender differences and other structural variables on the probability of access to quality jobs. In order to complement previous work and systematize our results, we present an analysis of gender gap trends by comparing two periods with different macroeconomic situations marked by periods of recession and economic expansion.
