Abstract

This paper seeks to reflect on the adoption of children in the Brazilian context. What is the current meaning of the adoption of children? Who are these kids and how are they being adopted? This study is formed by the description and analysis of adoption cases that occurred in the local context in different historical moments and the inquiry of the laws that rule the adoption of children in Brazil, in order to reflect on the theme in the expanded scenery of the country, allegedly considered homogeneous and universal. In such sense I propose an overview that focuses on the relationships between law, affection and economic transactions, inseparable in the formation of bonds of adoptive filiation. The field research is at an early stage, and it points to the existence of peculiarities inherent to the observed reality.
