Abstract

The article looks to examine the conflict happened Southern Brazil, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, after the soybean Roundup Ready (RR) was commercially authorized in the end of the 90s. For this, the article grounds for analysis the conflicts befallen among farmers, small-sized cultivators and government staff from different distinct levels (from the State and Federal). We look to show that, further than environmental security questioning, the conflict on transgenics along this period was directly associated to questions related to the agrarian reform in the region. The text makes use of academic pieces and declaration done by the political actors to examine the conflict.
