Abstract

The Italian migration policy has been marked by the systematic declaration of a state of emergency and the proliferation of detention centers for immigrants, asylum seekers and refugees. Seventy years after the end of Nazifascism, the country returns to a backdrop of widely discriminatory policies that exclude and criminalize certain categories of persons, in a dangerous fusion of popular racism and institutional racism. The purpose of this article is to reflect on the role of memory when confronted with the recent policies and tragedies in Italy.
