250 years of Jane Austen and her legacy

29/04/2025

Jane Austen is known to be one of the most acclaimed authors in the history of literature. Even though for around a century her work was categorized as “minor” literature, under a patriarchal perspective that was incapable of perceiving Jane Austen's inaugural denunciation regarding the condition of women in society at the beginning of the 19th century, the statement that her legacy still influences and gives new meaning to literature is indisputable. In tune with the global celebrations of Jane Austen's 250th birthday, this special edition of Revista Itinerários seeks to update reflections on the writer's life and work, especially in the Brazilian academic context, highlighting the importance of her legacy for the history of Western literature. Considered for publication are works that deal with Austenian fiction in the literary and social context, as well as economic and political, in addition to research with an emphasis on issues of materiality, translation, adaptations of Jane Austen's works, and also popular culture involving the author's life and work, including fanfiction.
