Abstract

This article intends, using the idea of “constructive destruction”, to observe the contemporary Afro-Brazilian poetics, through the brief analysis of some compositions of Criolo, with the aim to understand how some formal resources used by him, such as deglutition, collage, breaking linearity of time and the destruction of frontiers between spaces contribute to our thinking in the ways how a subjugated culture can, in a context of globalization, bring up its own discourse, resisting values supported by a certain elite. Besides, we will notice how the use, via poetic creation, of African mythology, Yoruba language, peripheral tradition and cultural hybridization contribute to a critical review of stereotypes regarding black man throughout Brazilian history.
