Abstract

By observing literature through an approach simultaneously formalist and sociological, in this article I investigate how the books Relato de um certo oriente, by Milton Hatoum [1989], A Majestade do Xingu, by Moacyr Scliar [1997], O sol se põe em São Paulo, by Bernardo Carvalho [2007], and Flores artificiais, by Luiz Ruffato [2014], work, through the narrator figure, with issues related to immigration and archives, in an attempt to better understand the hybrid identity of the narrator in contemporary Brazilian prose.
