Manuel Bandeira in Portugal launches in Africa

Abstract

On Ribeiro Couto’s initiative, Manuel Bandeira’s poetry arrived in Portugal, where it was welcomed not only by Adolfo Casais Monteiro, who published a laudatory review about it, but also by several authors, who incorporated the Brazilian poet’s ideas and ways of saying. From the divulgation by Presença magazine on and the fact that there were many students in Portugal from the then African colonies (but not only for that reason), Bandeira’s poetry found wide interlocution in Angola, São Tomé and Cape Verde, in addition to being welcomed, although in another form, in Mozambique. In the Cape Verdean case, the dialogue, which refuses or accepts the idea of Pasárgada as a place of refuge, continues to this day.
