this communication has as its main focus to weave some reflections around the essay work of the Portuguese poet and writer Helder Macedo, taking as a starting point his repeated interest in the work Menina e moça, by Bernardim Ribeiro. Starting from the conception of the genological category of «essay», as outlined by Eduardo Prado Coelho (1997) and João Barrento (2010), we intend to demonstrate how the hand of the Macedo’s essay finds in Bernardim’s poetry a point of seduction and dialogue with his creative project, underlining, above all, the analysis carried out by him in the outstanding study (Macedo, 1998).
