Abstract

This paper, which is based on the doctoral dissertation called “Between Beats and Bytes: The experimental Poetry of Robert Creeley (2007), intends to present, briefly, the context of North-American poetry, from the Modernist period until the 1980’s. Emphasis will be given to Robert Creeley´s importance in the development of some tendencies whose roots can be found in the works of Pound, Williams and Zukofsky and can still be noticed in movements as The New American Poetry and the Language Poetry.
