Abstract

The present text aims at presenting some aspects related to the reticent idea of death as it is announced in several moments of Mário de Sá-Carneiro’s poetical production. The analysis of those topics focuses on the poems “Dispersão”, “Além-Tédio”, “Serradura”, and “Fim”, since they seem to illustrate the Existencialist ideas and its various approaches. Nevertheless, we do not merely seek “to weave” those concepts into the poems of Sá-Carneiro, but we also envisage to highlight those Existentialist postulates, especially those of Sartrian inspiration, which seem to flirt perfectly with the literature of an existencial basis. Thus, by fostering the dialogue between Literature and Philosophy we also try to defend that intertextuality enables an expansion of the understanding of the dilemmas of human lives which do not let themselves easily capture by impervious keywords.
