From the intersemiotic translation to the intercultural adaptation theory: state of the art and future perspectives

Abstract

Translating or adapting literary works for different media – particularly TV and cinema – is already a cultural practice intrinsic to the contemporary world and, in the search for the understanding of the processes involved in this practice, scholars take into account different epistemological and methodological views. Therefore, this article aims at constructing a critical review of the main theoretical criticism carried out in the area of translation/adaptation, especially those conducted on Intersemiotic Translation and Adaptation Theory realms, attempting to describe them critically and to point out possible directions for future developments in this research area.
