Abstract

Baroja’s short narratives originally resume the main thematic and stylistic features of the author’s entire fictional production. More precisely, Baroja did not consider himself a member of the Generation of 1898 but in his short narrative production he decided to use many of the main topics that, according to the critics, define the social compromise of the Generation. The aim of this work is to analyze Baroja’s short narrative production in order to understand how it may reflect the background in which it was produced.
