Interdisciplinary postgraduate programs are generally built around themes treated in a multidisciplinary manner. We aim, based on the establishment of the Interdisciplinary Master's Degree in Applied Human and Social Sciences (ICHSA) at Unicamp, to reflect on an alternative model of interdisciplinarity, its application forms, and its challenges. Approved in 2013, ICHSA proposes radical interdisciplinarity, the effort to take a “step back” in the disciplinary division of human and social sciences to examine problems more comprehensively, restoring multidimensionality to phenomena. This starting point led to the structuring of a discipline axis that guides students from deconstruction to the reconstruction of their research objects. Despite the challenges of implementing the proposal, such as expectations from evaluation agencies; internal pressures toward pragmatic solutions to align interdisciplinarity with disciplinary reasoning; and inherent resistances in the process of deconstruction-reconstruction of research objects during the master's degree; over ten years of existence, ICHSA has demonstrated its potential as a training proposal that, in its diversity, highlights disciplinary boundaries and the potential for reconstruction based on research problems raised by students.
