Abstract

This article aims to develop the notion of freedom of expression and human rights in the context of multiculturalism. On the one hand, it is questioned whether the recognition of these rights would be linked solely to a certain culture, in an isolated way and incommunicable to others. On the other, the need for multicultural societies to be founded on a universal “common civic ethics” to be, in fact, a society. The aim is, therefore, to examine how such rights can converge to an idea that encompasses multiculturalism itself, in which intercultural dialogue and freedom of expression itself will play a fundamental role.
