Aging brings about biopsychosocial changes which require their specificities to be taken into account so that adaptations can be made to favor the inclusion of elderly people. With this in mind, the aim of this study was to discuss the promotion of accessibility for the elderly population in view of the changes caused by ageing. It consisted of a descriptive, cross-sectional and qualitative study, characterized as a narrative literature review using the descriptors “ageing”, “accessibility” and “functionality”. It was observed that it is necessary to adopt strategies that take into account the specificities of ageing in order to guarantee accessibility and inclusion for the elderly. However, in the Brazilian context, this reality is far from ideal. It was concluded that considering the demands and needs of the elderly, especially as a culturally embedded aspect, tends to favor the inclusion process of this group.
