Public policies for rural areas in Araraquara

Abstract

This paper discusses the conceptual boundaries between rural and urban areas and, as the literature about it defines the parameters to the rural and urban areas in Brazil. After literature discussion, there is an analysis about the Master plan of the Araraquara City that has a section devoted to the rural areas and subsistence farming. After the analysis of public policies present in the Master Plan, aimed at the rural areas, it’s shown that the municipal financial condition limit the in part the promotion of public policies that favor the rural areas.
