Abstract

In this article the authors have assumed that the emergence of rural tourism and the interest aroused in this sphere can not be analyzed outside the context of transition operated between a dominant discursive formation through the first half of the 1980s (the discourse of agrarian modernization) and the period subsequent, marked by the emergence of what came to be called multifunctionality. If in the first case we have the idealization of monoative explotation, in the second phase the pluriactive explotation, based on the diversification of incomes (including the rural tourism activities) is seen as a model to be followed.
