Abstract

After 2004, Brazilian government has adopted some principle of development theory to support the National Plans of Economic Growth combined with a Foreign Policy focused on the expansion of Brazil's commercial and political presence. The objective of this article is to discuss how the integration of international trade redefines the concepts of core and periphery, basis for the “new development theory”. The research is based on a study of bilateral trade data for 158 countries in 1960 and 180 countries in 2010, analyzed using a model of Social Network Analysis (SNA).
