Abstract

From empirical research of farmers belonging to an association of ecological farmers and social mediators of an NGO located in Rio Grande do Sul, this article analyzes the relationship between these actors seeking to understand the construction of social identities and the role of mediation this process. It was noticed that the influence of social mediators was instrumental in the construction of identity environmentalist farmer , and defining the guiding principles of ecological agriculture , especially in its origin, but to the extent that the latter is the defining principles were incorporating the " be ecologist farmer " and their underlying practices , these began to dispute with mediators its contours . Regarding mediators building your social identity such process takes place from the demarcation in relation to mediators linked to other institutions that occupy a dominant position in the "field of agriculture ."
