In this paper, I aim to reach two simultaneous goals. One of these goals refers to the effort of demonstrating what I mean by the symbolic annihilation syntagma; I postulate that the concept covers “contents” that, although they could be part of the discourse, are rejected out of the margins of a discursive formation. The other goal refers to the analysis of advertisements for baby care products, in which the father is obliterated, becoming silence, absence, and the unthought. By the confluence of these two problems, I attempt to make some reflections upon the consequences that can derive from the sectarian and biased separation defined by the ideology when assigning to women the unilateral place in childcare, and to men, no place: oblivion.
Keywords: Discourse. Advertisement. Paternity. Care. Oblivion.
