Abstract

Considering the value of the expression plane for the construction of meaning, this article aims to bring reflections on this theme, in the context of cinema. For this, we approach essential concepts, such as meaning, material, form and substance, to begin to understand the peculiarities of cinematographic language, which syncretizes, in its expression plane, heterogeneous elements. Far from presenting conclusions, our work intends to warm up the discussion around this rich and still deserving of a lot of analytical depth language. In order to stimulate the debate, we highlight issues raised by French semiotics and Christian Metz's semiology, in addition to comparing the writings of renowned semioticians, continuing the paths already opened by them in relation to syncretism, but without ceasing to bring your own perspective on what is conjectured here.
