Abstract

The main goal of this article is to propose a specific conceptual category to understand society and its changes nowadays. The concept of “information-technology capital” was developed as an analytical tool to contribute to the study of hierarchical structures and power relations observed in contemporary societies. According to empirical research carried out by scientists, the acquisition of information-technology capital takes the academic people to social positions of prestige and power. The article also indicates that the acquirement of knowledge skills and material resources to access cyberspace in its various forms promotes digital inclusion and may lead to specific forms of social inclusion.
