Features and troubles of the christian social assistance

Abstract

The relationship between social assistance and religion, mainly Christianity, is strong. This kind of activity embraces such initiatives from a simple food distribution to the resembling organization network creation. This article deals with some of the main social assistance experiences in the Brazilian Christian branches currently. Those entities are part of the so-called Third Sector, a very heterogeneous social field. There are disputes among the Christian social assistance organizations over public recognition and financial resources. As a result, there are also political-electoral controverting consequences. The Christian social assistance is ancient, wide and also paradoxical. In this text, relevant and polemical aspects of this Brazilian religious scenario are presented.
