Guidelines for articles submission

Itinerários - Revista de Literatura is a refereed indexed semiannual academic journal publication – evaluated as Qualis A2 (2013-2014) – linked to the Programme of Post-Graduation in Literary Studies. It has been publishing original works from various lines of research on the literary studies since 1990, written by PhD researchers and doctoral students from national and international institutions under the form of original articles or reviews.

All texts can be written in Portuguese or in any other language, and they must include a title, and a short abstract of the essay and keywords in the language of the text and in English. Every author listed on the essay must inform in footnotes: the acronym of the institution – the name of the institution in full – the name of the college – the name of the department – city – the acronym of the state – country – postcode – e-mail.

Example: UNESP –Universidade Estadual Paulista. Faculdade de Ciências e Letras – Departamento de Literatura. Araraquara – SP – Brasil. 14800-901 – e-mail.

Attention: texts which do not follow the guidelines above, including the e-mails, will not be considered.

Originals

Presentation. The text must be written in Word for WINDOWS, version 6.0 or in a more recent version, in 12-point Times New Roman font and 1.5-spaced. All essays must have 10 to 20 pages in length at most and the reviews up to 03 pages.

Structure. The following order must be followed: title; name(s) of the author(s) followed by the footnote according to guidelines above; abstract (200 words at most); keywords (up to 5 words); text; title in English; abstract and keywords; bibliographic references (only those quoted in the text).

Any mention or citation of a writer or book in the text, linked to the bibliographic references, should be accompanied by the year of the publication and the page, including the epigraphs.

Use bold type for emphasis and italics for words in a foreign language. Titles of works must be in italics, and only the first letter of the first word must be capitalized (example: Caminhos da semiótica literária), and chapters, short-stories or parts of a book must be put in quotes.

In-text citations.The author should be cited in parenthesis by the surname, followed by comma and the date of the publication (CANDIDO, 1999). If the author’s name is cited in the text, only the date should be put into parenthesis: Candido (1999) says... If it is necessary to specify the page, that should come after the date, separated by comma and preceded by p. (CANDIDO, 1999, p.543). Citations for more than one work by the same author, published in the same year, should be identified by the use of lower case letter after the date without space (CANDIDO, 1999a) (CANDIDO, 1999b). When the work has up to three authors, their surnames should be cited and separated by semicolon. (LEENHARDT; PESAVENTO, 1998), more than three authors, only the first surname is indicated and followed by et al (GILLE et al., 1960).

Citations up to 3 lines should be put in quotes, followed by the author’s name, date and page. More than 3 lines, a 4cm margin should be used on the left, and a Times New Roman font number 11 should be used without quotes, also followed by the author’s name, date and page. All citations in foreign language should be in italics.

Direct citation with more than three lines
Paul Valéry (1991, p. 208) concorda com a definição de Mallarmé, mas lhe faz uma ressalva:

[...] esses discursos tão diferentes dos discursos comuns, os versos, extravagantemente ordenados, que não atendem a qualquer necessidade, a não ser às necessidades que devem ser criadas por eles mesmos; que sempre falam apenas de coisas ausentes, ou de coisas profunda e secretamente sentidas; estranhos discursos, que parecem feitos por outro personagem que não aquele que os diz, e dirige-se a outro que não aquele que os escuta. Em suma, é uma linguagem dentro de uma linguagem.

Direct citation with three lines or less
É de Manuel Bandeira (1975, p. 39) o seguinte comentário: “[...] a poesia está nas palavras, se faz com palavras e não com idéias e sentimentos, muito embora, bem entendido, seja pela força do sentimento ou pela tensão do espírito que acodem ao poeta as combinações de palavras onde há carga de poesia."

Indirect citation
Tem-se na paródia, como afirma Linda Hutcheon (1985, p. 21), a manifestação textualizada da auto-referência, do nível metadiscursivo da criação literária.

Citation of various authors
Não me estenderei sobre esse assunto, por considerá-lo devidamente discutido pelos marxistas clássicos (MARX, 1983, 1969; LENIN, 1977a; LUXEMBURG, 1978).

Citation of more than one work by the same author
Há nele uma diversidade de formas de trabalho; mas em geral subsumidas no capital, e não externas a ele e que resistem à sua expansão, consoante desejam certos partidários do campesinato, cujo exemplo maior é Martins (1979, 1980, 1984, 1986).

Citation of a citation
Para Vianna (1986, p. 172 apud SEGATTO, 1995, p. 214), "[...] a política do PCB acabou por imprimir uma conotação progressista na natureza congenitamente autoritária do estado brasileiro."

Notes. Should be kept to a minimum and placed at the bottom of the page; references to footnotes should be made by using numbers in higher position in the space between lines.

Annexes and appendices: should be used only when absolutely necessary.

Tables: should consecutively be numbered with Arabic numbers and titles.

Images: even the ones included in the text, should be presented aside in a file image and should be in: .bmp, .gif, .ipg, .jpg, .cdr, .pcx, ou .tiff formats.

It is recommended to examine the journal issues available online.

The articles which do not follow the guidelines above will not be considered for publication. Rejected articles will not be returned to the author(s).
