Abstract

In the movie transposition of São Bernardo (1973), novel written by Graciliano Ramos (1934), the director Leon Hirszman uses the painting as one of the formal elements to adapt the literary text to the screen. The film establishes, therefore, a dialogue with two art forms: Literature - the starting point of the film adaptation - and Painting, of which the filmmaker incorporates some of its characteristic structural elements to the formal structure of his transposition of Ramos’s novel.
