Abstract

This paper presents some considerations about the importance of translation to the birth and consolidation of the national theatre, taking into account the study of the historical and the theatrical context in the 19th century and a brief analysis of the relations between the works of Molière and Martins Pena. Thus, it presents a reflection about the contribution of translation to communication among cultures. The work is based on theoretical studies and on researchers of theatre history and of translation, and it is also based on Even-Zohar’s Polysystem Theory.
