Abstract

This article aims to debate the notion of integration from the perspective of the French immigration policy. Then, taking in consideration the meaning of “integration” in multiple spheres, we draw a parallel between the integration of immigrants in France and an ecclesiastical integration practice – the tonsure. Following Durkheim’s thoughts, we intend to discuss the theoretical foundations of the context in which the French integration policies are applied. Thus, it is possible to place the concept of integration that underlies the policies of national identity through the processes of assimilation and social coercion.
