Abstract

The medical and social thought in Brazil was combined with the development of the country’s history. It is in the framework of reflection about the past that doctors diagnosed the national ills and predicted solutions for the design of the national State. Charge of his new assignment, the doctor would be a new social subject to the Nation: a “doctor politics”, a mixture of physician and social scientist, concerned about the weakness of society, supposedly originated from population, supported by institutions committed to order and progress. This paper aims to present how Social Medicine, through the medical-political, was invited by the state to intervene in a context with the objectives of form a national development project. So, analyze the development of medicine as a social thought, beyond analysis of reality, seeking to prevent and cure the ills of the nation, forming the first characteristics of the Brazilian Social Sciences.
