Abstract

The objective of this paper is to discuss religion and violence among inmates of “Rua dos Irmãos” from Casa de Privação de Liberdade Professor Clodoaldo Pinto (CPPL II), Itaitinga-CE, space marked by the existence of Projeto Renascer, which guides the life of prisoners from a Pentecostal Christian morality. From an essentially ethnographic approach, which makes use of the look, the hearing and the writing, the work shows how religion, at the referred prison, exerts an action of “civility” on inmates, controlling emotions and regulating prisoner’s everyday conflicts.
