Linchaquara — the murder of the Britos

This article aims to address the main historical elements that make up the violent murder of the Britos in the city of Araraquara - SP, in the year of 1897. During this period, western São Paulo lived the coffee expansion, the arrival of the railroad and the migration flow aimed at supplying the needs of labor. The murder made the city known nationwide as linchaquara. The crime is still remembered and sometimes used to denounce the intolerance of foreigners or even to criticize their presence. Over time the Britos became the subject of theater plays and history books, and are still currently considered popular saints.
