Abstract

This article presents the results of my master’s degree research, in which I discuss the situation of the city of Altamira, state of Pará, in the beginning of 2014. The facts are presented about the construction of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Complex and the presence of its workers in the region. Here I bring reflections on the studies of hydroelectric endeavors in the Social Sciences and I describe the urban environment of Altamira and its region. I finish rising questions about the place occupied by the workers in the studies regarding dam construction projects and what importance the urban environment has in this context.
