The aim of this article is to critically examine indicators, social participation and climate justice, exploring whether and how the scientific literature has addressed the participation of social actors—particularly the most vulnerable—in the development of socio-environmental indicators, using bibliometrics and a systematic literature review as research tools, based on a search in Scopus. The results were presented using visualizations created in Python (Matplotlib) and analyzed through thematic analysis. The results and discussions indicate that the literature on indicators, social participation and climate justice is still in its infancy, with only eight studies directly addressing the topic; however, they converge in recognizing that the participatory development of socio-environmental indicators strengthens the legitimacy of climate policies, incorporates local knowledge and enhances the inclusion of vulnerable groups. It is concluded that this approach contributes to operationalizing climate justice and guiding more inclusive and socially just adaptation processes.
