The fascism in indignation: the events of 2015 in Brazil

Abstract

This paper aims to contextualize and analyze the 2015 pro-impeachment protests in Brazil. It is stated that such manifestations and the highly reactionary character of them are the result of a political and ideological movement to co-opt the middle classes undertaken by the opposition to the right part of the government of President Dilma Rousseff since 2013. We start with the perspective that a significant portion of protesters of the June 2013 Journey, for its depoliticized and non-partisan character, was decisive to compose the great manifestations of 2015 increasing, however, a reactionary chorus with clear fascist inspiration. This article aims to establish the connection between the waves of experienced protests in the country from 2013-2015 indicating their points of dissonance, but focusing the analysis on what unites them somehow: its nonpartisan character, open space left by the left and cleverly manipulated by the extreme right. The aim is to finally understand how the fascist revolt is a resource used by sectors of the extreme right in economic and hegemonic times of crisis as a mobilizing source of the masses.
