The article discusses the issues of distance learning in the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. An increase in workload, destruction of health, a drop in academic performance, difficulties in understanding between students and teachers, impaired communication, lack of feedback, problematic control were the immediate side-effects of distance learning. During the summer, the Moscow Polytechnic University created electronic educational resources in all subjects, including the Russian language and culture of speech. The experiment, which was carried out among students studying this discipline in the first wave of the pandemic and the second wave at the beginning of the next academic year, gave exciting results. The experiment showed that the change in approaches and methods in distance learning in the study of the Russian language and culture of speech significantly increased the level of students' motivation, reduced the percentage of academic failure in groups.
