Call for Papers Dossier: Vocational training and the social function of universities: challenges of managing higher education courses

19/05/2023

Syllabus:

This dossier seeks to gather works that present results and reflections on how the management of higher education courses face the challenges of professional training in the postmodern and post-truth world. Studies are expected that present possible trends and needs for each specific area of training, as well as the presentation of results of public policies and internal policies related to the management of higher education courses.

Among the themes that can contribute to the dossier, we can highlight: adequacy of curricula of teacher training courses; coherence in curricula of higher education courses; management practices of higher education courses; management of courses in the health area; from the humanities, the environmental area, etc.; intersection between professional regulation policies and management of university courses; management of training courses for researchers; and ethical reflections on the social function of the university.

The technological, political and environmental challenges faced in the contemporary post-truth world question the existence of several professions, which may become obsolete or replaced by artificial intelligence; or they require them to restructure and adapt to the rapid and constant changes in today's societies.

In this scenario, there are several ethical reflections on the limits of technology and its impact on human lives. In this sense, universities, as important vocational training institutions, must reinvent themselves to adapt to this scenario of instability.

If the curricular organizations, the shared visions of the social role of each professional from the most diverse areas, the pedagogical practices implemented and the public educational policies of higher education and professional regulation, remain immutable, they become insufficient to train professionals capable of facing the problems with which humanity is currently faced.

The management of higher education courses can lead important reflections and practical movements in facing this challenge. Sharing the discussions and practices that take place in these spaces is important for a collective reconstruction of the social function of universities.

Thus, it is expected that the studies produced can contribute with theoretical-methodological reflections and practical directions to create conditions for the management of university courses in a postmodern world of constant transformations and new challenges.
