Abstract

This study is devoted to the educational examination of Mowlavi’s theosophy and ideology to the modern existentialism philosophy of the 20th century. Using the story of the parrot and the merchant in the first chapter of Masnavi as the basis of the work and comparing the principles, rules, and sayings of the existential philosophers, the similarities and overlaps of this school are assessed by the gist of Mowlavi’s words. The descriptive method is used to meet the aim of the study. Based on the evaluations performed herein, there are similarities in nine essential principles and beliefs between Mowlavi’s theosophical thought in the heart of the concepts introduced in the story of the parrot and the merchant and the ideas and principles of existentialism with the former being originated from the Islamic theosophy hence older and the latter being a modern west-stemmed philosophy.
