Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the basic system-forming concepts of Ukrainian word formation – word-formation type and word-formation model. The aim of the study is to analyze the scientific foundations for distinguishing the word-formation type and the word-formation model in Ukrainian derivatology. To achieve this goal and solve the tasks set, the methods of observation and systematization, analysis of definitions, generalization, as well as descriptive, comparative and functional methods were used. The replacement of the traditional description of the meanings of individual word-forming prefixes and suffixes of nouns, adjectives, and verbs. Three differential components are characterized. The generally accepted independent status of the word-forming type, based on three obligatory (constitutive) components, in modern Ukrainian derivation is stated. The difference in the isolation and terminology of the second system-forming quantity – word-formation model, the definition of which was also developed in Ukrainian word formation by I. Kovalyk, is clarified.
