Abstract

This article reveals the results of research on three support centers for distance education modality, considering the processes of governance and autonomy in the context in which they operate. There are two moments of analysis, respectively related to the structure of centers, from pre-established guidelines and discussion on cultural and contingent realities existing in this space; and finally the use of semi-structured interview for the analysis of management process and its possible autonomy. The interviews focused the coordinators of the respective centers (two located in the State of São Paulo and one in Paraná State), two of these centers of a private nature and the other of public order. As a result, we obtain that, despite the pre-established guidelines, the support centers have a contingency model and therefore cultural adaptation to the reality in which they are settled, comprising a management focused on the adequacy context of a constantly developing. However, the autonomy reveals the existence of non-negotiable procedures related to legal bases that regulate these parameters. Then autonomy is determined by the decision making of manager facing the settled reality.
